RIP Michael Jackson.

I am almost near tears right now (despite what people think, I do have feelings!). I cannot believe that Michael Jackson is dead. I called my mom to tell her and she ended the conversation with me, saying she needed to "get herself together." MJ was younger than both of my parents and aside from me being hurt by his death, I'm thinking, "What if that was my parents?" Maybe it's selfish of me, but that's what I think of every time someone dies. It definitely puts life in perspective for you.

All the controversy aside, Michael Jackson was a legend. A legend. Fuck all the money issues and court cases. He is, as one network stated, quite probably the most famous man in the world. MOST FAMOUS IN THE WORLD. People CRIED because they were in his presence. He was creative, innovative, and he was a genius. Anyone who disputes that is a liar and their feet stink. There are people who were not even alive during his true "reign" (ie Chris Brown) that are emulating him in their careers. His is a style that will never die.

With that said, here's a list of my favorite Michael Jackson songs, kinda sorta in rank order, with accompanying videos:

  1. Rock With You

  2. Off the Wall

  3. Remember the Time

  4. Don't Stop Til You Get Enough

  5. The Love You Save (Jackson 5)

  6. Wanna Be Where You Are

  7. Never Can Say Goodbye

  8. Thriller

  9. Beat It

  10. Who's Loving You?

  11. Blame It On the Boogie

  12. I Just Can't Stop Loving You

  13. Human Nature

  14. The Way You Make Me Feel

  15. Smooth Criminal (This one makes it on the video alone)

You'll notice that the Jackson 5/Jacksons songs that I've listed aren't the most popular ones (ABC, etc). Those weren't as dear to me as these. Some of them aren't actual music videos, but performances.

Rest in peace, Michael. <3

all i want for memorial day...

As Christmas has so clearly passed and my birthday still 3+ months away, I decided I want a Memorial Day present. That's not too much to ask, right?

That's what I thought.

So here are a few things I would like to have for Memorial Day, if anyone is in a giving mood:

1) Shim-shimmery clutch

Do I have an outfit to go with this clutch? Of course not. Would I create one around it? Hells yeah.

2) Red (Christian) Louboutin shoes

What kind of shoe-loving chick would I be if I didn't NEED a pair of these in my life? I just bought a navy + white striped off the shoulder kinda hip-length shirt and I figured I'd go nautical (or patriotic - but I prefer to think nautical) with it. Throw on some dark denim skinny jeans, a white bag maybe (?), and THESE shoes. I'll have to revise that dream unless someone buys them for me.

3) (Yet Another) Plaid Shirt

Yes, two years later, I still like plaid. In my defense, I think I only have 3 plaid shirts. One of which I bought because it was orange + blue - GATOR! colors. How could I resist?

4) Party Dress

I love dresses.

5) White Skinny Jeans

Don't judge me.

Shoe-gasm

And this right here is why I have the urge to knock some people in the head...and flee with their money. But since I'm not one for communal showers, and sharing a cell with Big Bertha, I'll keep on buying these scratch-offs and playing the Mega Millions. Just so I can be one step closer to a pair of shoes that look like this.

I love you Ruthie Davis and your fabulous shoes...can we be bff?

love sex magic with jt and ciara.

I just watched the video for Ciara's song "Love Sex Magic" with Justin Timberlake. The song: Loves it. The video: Not so sure. It made me wonder what Justin was offering to the LSM. She's doing all the work! Where are his tricks?? Not in this video, that's for sure. He just gets to lay down and smack ass while she does moves that made me want to run out and get a Pilates video to work on my flexibility. For serious. The wardrobe sucks, the lighting sucks, and her hair... Let's just say I'm not feeling the afro wig. But the tricks are awesome. Enjoy.

Watch ya man!

Where can I find a man that pays your mortgage, takes care of your kids, buys you a new iphone (because you dropped yours), a new marc jacobs bag, diamond Tiffany earrings, and hints that there may be some Louboutins in your future...?

To my cousin, Magical T, bitch you better watch ya man. Blood may be thicker than water...but its not thicker than a stack of Franklins. I'm just saying.

2009: Living Off the Wall

A friend of mine recently said that I always come up with themes and mottos for things. I don't know if I would use the word "always," but I will acknowledge that I do enjoy a good theme. It helps guide me. So for 2009, my theme/motto is "Off the Wall." Over twenty years late, I just discovered the title track to that MJ album. And I love it. It spoke the truth to my heart, in the same way that (almost) everything Kanye says touches me.

There are things I want to do or try. I might just have to use 2009 to cross some of those things of my list (I love lists. I have a list of things I want to do before I'm 30). I'm not sure how I'm going to do it but I fully intend to follow Mike's edicts - leave that nine to five up on the shelf and just enjoy myself, life ain't so bad at all if you live it off the wall.

Word.
